Mrs Davis

Head of Sixth Form

The supportive, inclusive atmosphere in our Sixth Form enables our students to meet their potential and to have the confidence to think ‘Why not me?’.

What do you think is special about the Sixth Form at TGS?
Our team goes above and beyond to ensure that every single student is prepared well for their adult life.  The supportive, inclusive atmosphere enables our students to meet their potential and to have the confidence to think ‘Why not me?’.

What do you enjoy most about teaching at TGS?
As a teacher of Philosophy and TOK, my favourite part of teaching here is about the debate and the challenge in lessons.  TGS students never shy away from a debate and it makes for very interesting lessons!

How are students supported during their Sixth Form study?
The support that students receive in the Sixth Form is excellent.  We have a two-pronged approach – pastoral wellbeing and academic monitoring, with a specific Student Support Coordinator and Curriculum Director for each year group.

Our experienced team can often anticipate the ‘bumps in the road’ that students may experience during their time with us – sometimes before the students themselves are aware of them!  We monitor progress carefully and through the personal tutor system; all students receive regular 1:1 support in review meetings.  The Sixth Form team works alongside the Personal Tutor team to put in place individual and specific intervention strategies for any student who is underperforming or who is facing other difficulties.

What has been your favourite moment at TGS so far?
I have a number of very memorable experiences from my time at TGS.  Sports Days (at which Year 12 students play a pivotal role) are always good fun, and a particular highlight is dressing up as a school mascot to run a race!

How are students prepared for their post TGS destinations?
Preparation for life after TGS starts in Year 12.  We provide all our students with outstanding careers guidance and tailored support when choosing their post TGS destinations.

1:1 support is given for all university applications with specific support and enrichment programmes for those applying for medicine, Oxford or Cambridge, careers in STEAM, law and human sciences.  This is further enhanced by our visiting speaker programme and annual careers fair.  This year this provided the opportunity for students to hear over 50 inspiring speakers.

We use Unifrog which brings into one place every undergraduate university course, apprenticeship, and college course in the UK, as well as other opportunities, such as School Leaver Programmes, MOOCs and every college at Oxford and Cambridge. This make it easy for students to compare and choose the best university courses, apprenticeships or further education courses for them. They can also explore exciting opportunities further afield by looking at undergraduate programmes at international institutions.

Additionally, the platform helps students to prepare documents which will be required to successfully apply for these opportunities including personal statements, application forms and CVs.
