Page Turners Book Award Gala Evening

Last week saw TGS students taking part in the annual Page Turners Book Award Gala Evening. Hosted by Weald of Kent School, this celebration of books and reading is enjoyed by hundreds of students from schools across the region.

The theme of our reading was 'Turning the Page to Tomorrow' looking at climate futures and AI. We had visiting authors, Lauren James and Nicola Penfold, and five others who contributed via video. Through the generosity of sponsors, Coopers Burnett LLP and Learning and Leadership Ltd, every student had the opportunity to choose a book from the wide selection supplied by Sevenoaks Bookshop.

The evening was packed with book talk and students were asking questions right up to the last minute, stopping only to hear the announcement of the winning book: The Survival Game by Nicky Singer.

We are already planning for next year’s awards and hope to take even more students to be a part of this exciting evening.

A brilliant evening where we got to share our love of books and hear from inspiring authors. Thanks for our free books too.

It was lovely to see so much enthusiasm for reading, for the shortlisted books and for the opportunity to hear first-hand from two writers.  The questions asked of Lauren James and Nicola Penfold were thought-provoking and demonstrated that not only were the students avid readers, they were budding writers too.  I am already looking forward to next year!
