Sixth Formers attend Computer Science in Action Lectures at the Emmanuel Centre

Computer Science students enjoyed the Computer Science in Action Lectures at the Emmanuel Centre in London.

The event comprised five inspiring sessions, presented by experts from academia and industry:

  • Smart Cities - Matthew Leeke, School of Computer Science, University of Birmingham
  • Behind the scenes of app development - Lyndsey Scott, Software Engineer, MSt AI Ethics at University of Cambridge
  • The quantum computing race - Nic Harrigan, Physicist, PsiQuantum
  • Navigating UX Design: From Basics to Growth Mindset - Katrina Dargel, UX Researcher
  • Exploring the potential and challenges of AI and ML in Education - Wendy Yanez Pazmino, University of Birmingham

Students welcomed the opportunity to speak with Professor Matthew Leake, Professor of Computer Science at the University of Birmingham (pictured), who chaired the event.  He provided students with advice about Higher Education courses and how to reach out to students and professors at universities to get involved in research projects.  Students also learnt about some of the projects his university students were working on that had similarities with their IB Diploma projects.
