Sports Day 2023

TGS Sports Day 2023 was an exciting day full of competing, supporting friends and even a whole school zumba warm-up!

Athletics events, like hurdles, javelin and high jump gave all students from competitive athletes to complete beginners a chance to show off the skills they have learnt in PE and have a go! Meanwhile, alternative events, like tug of war and the skipping race, were equally exhilarating.

The atmosphere was lively and enthusiastic, with the whole school watching on and cheering for their friends and houses and even some talented Year 12s doing face painting.

The day culminated in races and relays including an intense house mascot race, followed by a sixth form vs teachers relay where (of course) it was a team of students that took the lead. All in all, Carey claimed victory for the Sixth Form, while Fayerman won overall. Regardless of who won, the day really built house spirit and the (mostly) sunny weather made for a great break from usual lessons and a final sports day to remember for the Year 12s!

Sports Day 2023 was in honour of Mrs Irene Jean Sunderland (née Ronald) who was Games Teacher at Tonbridge Grammar School from 1920.  We were delighted to welcome her daughter Mira as our special guest, along with her school friend Sally Murphy (née Hayter) to our Sports Day.

Read Mrs Sunderland and Mira's story here.  We thank Mira for generously supporting TGS Sports Day for the next three years.
