CAS Story: Model United Nations Conference, Erica Y12

On 18 March, the MUN Club made their way to Cobham Hall for a Model United Nations Conference.

We represented the delegations of India and Albania in the General Assembly, as well as the committees of the Security Council, UNEP, UNODC, and Human Rights.

Engagement on the separate councils was very impressive, where issues such as the relationship between legalising marijuana and crime rates, food security, child privacy, cybercrime, and desertification were discussed. All delegates had great fun participating in the debating of resolutions, where 2 of our own resolutions were debated, as well as amendments sponsored by our countries being passed- a couple of these actions even made it into the events newsletter.

A big hooray for everyone who participated in the General Assembly- we are immensely proud! The effort was rewarded by India being declared “Best Delegation”! It was a happy moment to see our new delegates thrive under the fast-paced environment of the mock-emergency, wherein China invaded Mongolia and we all had to devise resolutions and alliances- special mention to Hannah, who participated very effectively in negotiations with China. It was a great victory for Nivedita and Erica, who were awarded Highly Commended in UNEP and UNODC respectively.

Big credits to Mrs Peake for giving up her Saturday to chaperone us to Cobham Hall School, we are all tremendously grateful. Well done to all delegates for excellent participation- clapping is in order!

Erica, Year 12

The TGS delegates were professional and passionate throughout earning themselves many compliments from the other teachers for their fine debating skills.
