Celebration and Awards 2023

Celebrating, in person for the first time for three years, the achievements and phenomenal success of all students who sat their GCSE and IB Diploma examinations in 2022 was always going to be very special.  But when the snow fell fast and heavily on Sunday 11 December, the event on the Monday could not go-ahead and it was threatened with cancellation.

It was all the more special to be able to rearrange the postponed event at very short notice and welcome students back to school on Tuesday 3 January, the day before the start of term.

Our Guest of Honour was Annette Doherty OBE FRSC President Elect of the Royal Society of Chemistry.  Annette also serves as a Member of Tonbridge Grammar School Academy Trust.

Nigel Stratton Chair of Trustees, Head Teacher Rebecca Crean and Head Students congratulated and thanked students for their outstanding contributions to the school. All students were presented with their certificates and a range of awards were given. A student of class of 2022 commented on how poignant it was to go up on the stage to shake hands with the Head Teacher, just as she had done at her Welcome Event when she joined Tonbridge Grammar School in year 7.

Attendees enjoyed music by guitarist Cordelia (Class of 2022) and at the Reception afterwards students and staff enjoyed catching up informally.

We wish all the students very well in their many and varied pathways and we warmly encourage them to stay in touch with TGS through the TGS Connections network.  We look forward to them returning to inspire the generations of students who follow them.

Thanks to staff who rescheduled their work diaries and to the Head Students and House Leaders for giving up their last day of school holiday. With thanks also to our event sponsors and a TGS parent for supporting this year’s awards and reception.
