Neighbours of Tonbridge Grammar School

Dear Neighbour,

Tonbridge Grammar School would like to ensure that those surrounding the School are kept up to date with what is happening on the site. This page will also offer the local residents ease of access to contact the School, building a stronger local community.

RMT Industrial Action

You will doubtless be aware that this week there will be considerable and prolonged travel disruption across the country. The RMT has announced 3 days of national strike action across the railway network, planned on 21, 23 and 25 June.   In line with DfE advice and guidance parents are expected to make their own contingency arrangements to ensure their children attend school.

We do anticipate a number of parents will have little choice other than use the car in order to get pupils to School – especially as GCSE Exams are taking place.  The School have issued the following messaging to parents:

“It is really important that parents do not add to congestion by attempting vehicular access Deakin Leas, Baltic Road or The Drive to drop off or collect students. Increased congestion will not help you get your child to and from school promptly and presents a significant road safety risk given the number of children that enter and exit the school site at these times and have to cross the roads. It also poses a safety risk for other pedestrians. To help prevent gridlock in the roads around the School please drop off and collect at a distance from the School. There are plenty of local car parks available in the town centre where you can wait safely and without blocking roads or driveways. Children who usually get a train will be used to walking the distance from the station to the school and those who usually come by car should be being dropped at a distance anyway even on a normal day. Thank you for your support on this.”

Thank you for patience during this unwelcome period of disruption.
