CAS Story: Running DT sessions

student using DT tools

Gracie explains more:

Design Myself and a team of other Year 12 students organised a design and making club for the students of NEXUS school. The students came to the TGS campus weekly to learn new skills and make a product.

I worked one to one with a student each week, helping them develop  skills and gain independence. The club was designed to be fun and engaging for the students and was run weekly by myself and other students.

Through conversation, we helped the students to choose a design for their coat hook. Once the students had chosen a design, we helped them to translate it into 2D design. We then finished the work left over on 2D, ready to send to the laser cutter for the following week.

After the pieces were cut, the wood pieces were dyed and a teacher created the hook.  The wood was dried and then, using superglue, the TGS students attached the laser-cut designs to the timber. The final stage included the students drawing pilot holes to attach the hook. We then helped them to use a screwdriver, tightening the screws.

The students were then able to take home their finished creation.
