Year 10 inspired by alumni visitors

Year 10 students enjoyed a day that allowed them to further explore their post-GCSE aspirations and begin to create a Sixth Form programme that is aligned with their interests and supports their future study and career plans.

They were inspired by alumni visitors from the Classes of 2023 and 2025 who talked about their Sixth Form studies at TGS and the post-school pathways they have followed at a wide variety of universities and on degree apprenticeships.

Alumni explained how their ability to think critically and solve real world problems (learnt during their time at TGS), the Careers Progamme and support at TGS allowed them to ‘hit the ground running’ after school.  They also talked about how their ‘Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)’ activities and writing their Extended Essays had supported their university/apprenticeship applications and complemented their career choices.

Year 10 explored the core elements of the Sixth Form programme including Theory of Knowledge (TOK) via a school-wide treasure hunt and a CAS workshop.  The workshop was designed to give an insight into just some of the activities Sixth Form students have undertaken including a demonstration of British Sign language and a game of sign bingo, hands on first aid and our Sixth Form tradition of bracelet making as a demonstration of primary school enrichment.

Year 10 students also talked to current Sixth Form students about their programmes of study and day-to-day life in the Sixth Form.

The day ended with the chance to try out Sport Friday, a firm favourite in the Sixth Form.

We are always so very grateful to our engaged and proactive former students for their continued support and for inspiring current students.
