Medal success for Mia

Congratulations to Mia, who last year took on the challenge of rowing a single scull, mostly having to compete in an age above her own class.

At the beginning of the season, on 9 March, at the South East regional trials at Docklands in London, she rowed a first place, qualifying for an inter-regional championship in Nottingham, held on the 26th of April.

Mia represented the Thames South East region and competed against 27 older girls who have all won their regional titles. She confidently rose to the occasion, and after a nail-biting photo finish, secured a bronze medal, narrowly missing out on a silver.

She consequently attended the Junior Sculling Regatta - a prestigious competition at Eton Dorney (the former Olympic venue). Yet again, she had to compete against 17 older scullers, and after finishing first in the heats, qualified for the A final.  In the afternoon, after a long 2km race, she very narrowly missed on a gold medal, finishing overall second - and winning a silver medal.

On the 3rd of May she competed at the Marlow regatta, winning a gold medal.

She is now looking forward to the British National Championships in July, held in Nottingham.
