Culture Day; a celebration of the rich cultural diversity that makes our community so special.

Last week saw our annual TGS Culture Day; a celebration of the rich cultural diversity that makes our community so special.  It is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the school year and has become one of our most cherished traditions.

Students had the opportunity to take part in a carousel of activities which included: Greek and Scottish Dancing, Capoeira, Kinball, African Drumming, Foods of the World Sampling Challenge, Ukrainian Cultural Challenge, making  Koinobori streamers, beading, Greek Myths and Hindu Epics to name a few.

Our sincere thanks to Mrs Thompson and the team of staff and student leaders who made this fantastic day possible.  We are especially grateful to the parents who gave up their time to run and develop sessions.

Mrs Thompson commented “The School was a sea of colourful and intricate costumes which reflected the rich cultural diversity of our community. The level of detail students went to was astounding, you could be speaking to ‘Gandhi’ one minute and then a Welsh dragon the next!”

Students added:

"Culture day is one of my favourite days at TGS, and this year was definitely one to remember. My favourite part about the day is watching students celebrate the beautiful diversity we have in our school. It is truly beautiful to watch and take part in the activities, especially the fashion show! The whole day was filled with joy, laughter, and a lot of dancing! A huge thank you to Mrs Thompson for organising such a wonderful event and to my fellow Year 13 fashion show team!"

“I particularly enjoyed the fashion show where it showcased the different cultures across the school.”

“I loved the range of cultures we talked about during the day- everything from Japan to Greece to Scotland. Culture day is an amazing opportunity to make everyone feel special, something I delighted in watching”.

"I appreciated the amount of effort that was put into making the day so amazing, also the inclusion of aboriginal cultures into the stories. Overall, it was a Culture Day to remember”.
