Victoria Hislop and Dan Abnett in conversation

In conversation guests and students

On Wednesday 26 March, the English Subject Ambassadors were fortunate enough to be able to invite renowned authors Dan Abnett, our Writer in Residence, and alumna Victoria Hislop to our school in honour of ‘Reading Matters Month’, an immensely important event at TGS. This engaging, memorable literary debate was incredibly insightful, and we are very grateful to have had the privilege to organise this!

Comments from some of our English Subject Ambassadors:

A truly inspiring evening about why reading matters! Thank you to Victoria and Dan for deepening my appreciation for stories and making me want to dive into a book straight away.

Hina

As I am passionate about reading, writing and all things English, the Reading Matters event was an incredible experience for me to explore the things we already learn in our English curriculum, and see it applied to successful careers.

Juno

It was a really engaging and fun discussion from writers who have truly mastered their craft and are kind enough to share some of their stories. It was a wonderful celebration of reading!

Ruby

My favourite part of the event was how passionate Victoria and Dan were, true role-models for aspirational writers! An immensely eye-opening experience.

Safwa

Overall, the event was a success, a delightful and inspiring evening for our TGS community ! Keep your eyes open for the English department’s next event! Much more is to come…
