Year 7 learn about modern slavery through the storytelling device of an escape room

As part of IDU week (the focus of which is interdisciplinary learning), Year 7 students were placed into teams and challenged to solve a series of clues to complete a fully developed escape room, uncovering the story of Ricardas, a survivor of modern slavery.

Following this, students were tasked with designing their own escape room, presented in the form of a board game. Each group was given the story of a modern slavery survivor and used their knowledge of maths and design to create a logical and creative game.

The two-day project concluded with students presenting their board games and sharing what they had learned about both modern slavery and interdisciplinary learning, where all students articulated their ideas maturely and thoughtfully.
