On the anniversary of legator Joy Debney’s birthday, students provide an insight into designing and creating in our upgraded DT studio; a project made possible by Joy’s Legacy* and the generosity of donors.

The Technology Block has benefited from a fresh, collaborative, open and flexible teaching environment with new equipment that includes a design suite with 30 computers, 2 large moveable smart screens and ceiling hanging electrics. 

It has the flexibility to be used as one space for students in which they can both design and produce work, or it can be broken down into three separate spaces via the use of bifold walls, allowing for the creation of a lecture space.  

Additionally, accessibility to the Technology Block has been enhanced with the inclusion of a lift.

The brand new spaces are larger and brighter.  The spaces are connected by soundproof doors which can be opened for collaborative working and learning.  The rooms are brighter which helps us see our work so much better.

We have been able to achieve these initial developments thanks to generous donations and a legacy gift from a former teacher Miss Joy Debney*. 

*Joy's Legacy Programme is named after Miss Joy Debney who taught History at Tonbridge Grammar School for 37 years.  Her legacy has enabled the school to make a start on a new vision for future school masterplan which includes the DT studio and establish The Debney Endowment Trust.  Visit our Support Us pages to learn more.
