An action packed ski adventure in Flachau, Austria

Eighty‑four students and eleven staff members enjoyed an unforgettable week in Flachau, Austria, during this year’s school ski trip - an exciting blend of snowy slopes, cultural experiences, and thrilling après‑ski activities.

Throughout the week, Flachau delivered excellent ski conditions, with fresh snowfall every day except for one beautifully clear and sunny morning. With two‑thirds of the group skiing for the first time, many students were complete beginners at the start of the trip.

Despite the snowy weather, their determination shone through. Daily lessons saw students building confidence, sharpening their skills, and gradually progressing from the nursery slopes to skiing independently on the mountain. Instructors and staff praised the group’s resilience, teamwork, and enthusiasm.

The après‑ski programme provided students with plenty of opportunities to unwind and embrace Austrian traditions.

A highlight of the week was the lively Tyrolean evening. Professional dancers in traditional dress showcased local folk routines before inviting students to join in. Laughter filled the room as the group attempted the steps - and even had a go at playing the Alpenhorn, a dramatic four‑metre‑long wooden horn.

Midweek, students enjoyed a well‑earned break at the Flachau thermal baths. The facilities offered something for everyone: fast water slides, a wave pool, a laser‑lit disco area, and peaceful outdoor jacuzzi bubble beds surrounded by crisp mountain air. It was a perfect chance to relax aching muscles and recharge after busy days on the slopes.

The trip concluded with a final burst of adrenaline on the Lucky Flitzer - Flachau’s famous mountain roller coaster. Students rode individual sled‑like cars down the mountainside, controlling their own speed as they zoomed through twists and turns with spectacular alpine views.

The week in Austria was a remarkable success, with students showing excellent behaviour, positivity, and a willingness to challenge themselves. They embraced every part of the experience - from learning new skills on the slopes to immersing themselves in Austrian culture and enjoying the evening adventures.

Staff members expressed their pride in how well the students represented the school and supported each other throughout the week. The trip created lasting memories and strengthened friendships.

I just want to say how incredibly proud I am of all the students who took part in the recent ski trip. Throughout the week, you showed resilience, teamwork, and a fantastic attitude—both on the slopes and as representatives of our school. Many of you pushed yourselves outside your comfort zones, supported one another, and embraced every challenge with enthusiasm. Your behaviour, kindness, and determination were noticed by every member of staff on the trip. You should be very proud of yourselves - I certainly am.
