TGS is immensely proud to have been named as The Sunday Times State Secondary School of the Year 2014 and the Sunday Times International Baccalaureate School of the Year 2014.

We are an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. Through blending the best of a traditional curriculum with the principles and ethos of the IB Organisation, TGS students have opportunities to learn in breadth and depth in order to develop as well-balanced individuals. They become active learners and are encouraged to be passionate about making a difference in the world.

TGS is a high achieving selective grammar school with academy status, educating girls between the ages of 11 and 16 and girls and boys in the Sixth Form. The school prepares students for GCSEs, IGCSEs and the International Baccalaureate. In addition to an extensive curricular timetable, our students take part in an extensive range of extracurricular activities.

Admission to Year 7 September 2017

The Admissions arrangements for 2017 entry are available at the bottom of this page. Please also see the 'Guidance for Parents' download below which will help with frequently asked questions, including process and score information.

The Governors have decided that the school is able to offer an additional intake of 30 students above its Published Admission Number for entry in September 2017. We will ask KCC to allocate a total of 180 places to grammar assessed girls in March 2017, with 24 of these 30 extra places to be offered to girls living within the local areas described by the Admissions Policy for 2017 and 6 places for girls living outside those areas. This means a total of 139 places will be offered to girls eligible for Area places and 41 to girls eligible for Governor places. The decision applies to the current admission round, with decisions for future years to be taken annually.

Offers of TGS Year 7 places in September 2017 were made to 180 girls - 139 from our Area list and 41 from our Governor list.

Cut-off scores were as follows:

Area List - 372 - BUT only one girl scoring 372 was offered (the distance tie-break fell at 0.726)

Governor List - 395 - BUT only one girl scoring 395 was offered (the distance tie-break fell at 13.736)

Any declined places will be filled via KCC's Reallocation on 28th April.

Reallocation offers, for those who requested a place on our waiting list via KCC, were posted first class on 28th April. We were able to offer 9 Area places and 6 Governor places.

The Area cut off did not change from 372 (no distance tie-breaker needed)

The Governor cut-off was 389 (no distance tie-breaker needed) however a large number waiting list requests since the reallocation means there are a number of higher scoring girls impacting on subsequent list positions.

Any further declined places will now be offered direct by the School as soon as they arise.

Arrangements for appeals to TGS are available here.
