The International Baccalaureate

As an IB world school, we aim to develop enquiring, knowledgeable and caring young  people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and responsibility. The Diploma Programme for students aged between 16 to 19 is a demanding two-year curriculum leading to final examinations and a qualification that is welcomed by leading universities around the world.

Our Experience

We have concluded from 9 years experience of teaching the diploma alongside A levels that the IB offers students a range of additional advantages in entering today’s highly competitive Higher Education environment and work marketplace. Based on this, from 2014, our Sixth Form curriculum changed to an exclusively IB one and we no longer offer A Levels.

Students with the IB diploma gain the following advantages:

  • an international outlook
  • a positive attitude to independent learning
  • learning beyond traditional subjects
  • opportunities for in-depth enquiry
  • critical thinking skills
  • research-based learning skills
  • university recognition of the level of challenges
The IB gave me a broader education which helped me at university as I had to use Maths, English and Science throughout my degree course. The IB programme meant that I was able to acquire more in-depth knowledge of Biology and Psychology at Higher Level, but my written work was of a good standard thanks to my perseverance with English.
