11 members of TGS staff are in training to run the Tonbridge Half Marathon on 6th October in support of Joshua Orphan and Community Care in Malawi.
TGS has a long-standing connection with Joshua Orphan and Community Care, having run annual Sixth Form humanitarian visits to Malawi for the past 7 years, supporting the work that Joshua does in the rural shires around Blantyre. Through this connection we have built several classroom blocks, community based care centres, toilets, playgrounds and more.
The staff taking part are: Mr McDaid, Mrs Ransley, Miss Cachia, Mrs Ryde, Mr Cejudo, Mr Wheeler, Miss Acosta, Mrs Saunders, Mrs Blackstone, Mr Phillpott and Mr Ellis.
A number of us have had the opportunity to see first hand the positive impact that Joshua and TGS has had since our relationship began but all of us believe in the importance of education as a means of escaping the cycle of poverty experienced by many children in Malawi. Every penny that we raise will go towards supporting Joshua’s commitment to ECD (Early Child Development) that provides greater access to education, nutrition and health care to help give children the best start in life.
Since training begun, just before the summer holiday, we have run a combined total of over 900 miles already! Many of us are not natural runners, some of us haven’t run in over 30 years but we are each determined to go the extra mile and reach the finishing line.
If you would like to share some support and sponsor our efforts then please visit:
Any contribution, however large or small, will help keep us smiling as we cross that finishing line!
