On the last Academy Day, our Under 16 Hockey team had an early start, setting off at 7.00am to travel to Cambridge University to take part in the Regional East Round Investec Under 16 Tier 3 National Schools Championship. Having qualified from the Kent County Finals, the team was keen to progress.
Tonbridge Grammar School were one of the two teams representing Kent at the competition along with schools from Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Hertfordshire.
The competition was made up of two pools. The winners of each of the two pools would play the runner up of the other pool to decide which teams would play each other to compete for one of two places in the Regional Finals. We won our pool games convincingly to play the runner up of the other pool, New Hall School from Essex.
Having improved in each game, the girls produced their best performance of the day to seal their place and progress to the next round, beating New Hall 4-1. In doing so, they now qualify to play in the Regional Finals in Ilford in November.
Congratulations to students for demonstrating excellent team spirit and consistent hard work in what was a long day of hockey.
