Tonbridge Grammar School Elite Gymnasts travelled to Fenton Manor Stoke at the weekend for the BSGA school team Milano Gymnastic Finals, in which a team of four gymnasts can be entered. Each team performs 3 individual floor routines, 3 vaults and a trio group routine. The school entered teams in both an U13 and U16 team after a very successful regional qualifier held at St. Johns school earlier this year.
The U16's competed on the Friday completing their individual floor routines first which demonstrated dynamic and well-rehearsed routines that were testament to the girls hard work and commitment to elite gymnastics. The girls then rotated on to the vault with all girls completing their chosen vault with accuracy and flair. The girls then had plenty of time to prepare for their trio routine in the afternoon. Once the trio were on the floor it was evident they were determined to deliver a first class performance which was exciting to watch and was executed with both precision and style. The final scores for the U16 squad (Fleur, Maddie, Adele and Rebecca) were fantastic and ensured the girls were placed third on the podium representing the South-East alongside Tormead School.
The U13 squad (Millie, Jess, Flo and Charlotte) joined us on the Saturday for their Milano finals, completing their trio first. The performance was spectacular to watch and it was the best it had ever been performed! The girls then rotated on to their individual floor routines seeing the girls all executing their routines with enthusiasm and confidence, all the routines were a pleasure to watch and all girls looked like experienced competitors. On the vault we saw the girls demonstrate really skilled performances, only reaffirming the commitment to excellence that the entire TGS elite squad seemed to exude. The Final scores for the U13 team placed them 2nd only losing by 0.23 points to Tormead. However because both Tormead School and TGS were representing the south-east region the girls were awarded a gold medal for their overall contribution to the competition.
Well done to all students involved. Many thanks to parents for their continued support and a very special thanks must go to Mrs Cattoor for her dedication and hard work volunteering her time to coach the squad.
