It is with immense sadness that I must tell you that Miss Joy Debney died on Wednesday 22 March 2017. Joy was a longstanding and much loved member of the Tonbridge Grammar School community and she will be remembered for her huge contribution to the life of this school. She was a member of staff between 1954 and 1991, teaching History and working tirelessly for the School and its strategic management.
In her retirement Joy was a frequent visitor to the School. She had a special involvement in school archives and shared her personal depth of knowledge and she enjoyed all things musical. In more recent times Joy’s Legacy Programme was established in 2013 and in 2016 Joy accepted the School’s invitation to create a new Debney House.
In our school assemblies next week we will take time to share and celebrate Joy’s life and her contribution to our community. Friday 31 March will have a particular poignancy this year and in the years to come when we will mark her (86th) birthday and the anniversary of Joy’s Legacy Programme.
Joy’s funeral and celebration of her life is expected to take place in late April and I will share information as soon as I have more details. In the meantime, if you would like to contact the School may I suggest you contact me or Mrs Pippa Blackstone in the Development and Alumni office: email@example.com 01732 365125 x 221
