Tonbridge Grammar School elite gymnastic squad travelled to St John’s School, Gravesend at the weekend for the BSGA South East Regional Milano Team Competition, in which a team of 4 gymnasts were entered. Each team performed 3 individual floor routines, 3 vaults and a trio group routine. The School entered two U16 teams and one U19 team.

The gymnasts from Tonbridge Grammar competed in vault first which were all performed well, followed closely by their individual floor routines which were all performed with precision. After all schools had competed their floor and vault rounds, the scores were very close. Tonbridge Grammar U19 team were positioned in first place by the smallest margin of 0.1 marks and the U16 team in 2nd place.

The gymnasts then had plenty of time to prepare for their trio routine. Once the girls were on the floor they performed better than they ever have done before! It was a faultless routine and we were hopeful to achieve a medal at the end of the competition.

The finals scores from both U16 Girls teams and U19 teams were impressive. The U16 team (Anabelle. Fleur, Maddie and Rebecca) and U19 team (Lola, Emily, Izzy, and Jasmine) all came home with silver medals! It was an outstanding achievement for the girls as they now represent the South East region again in both age categories. They will now represent the region at the National finals and hope to retain their title from last year.  The Milano National Team Finals are being held at Fenton Manor on the 10th and 11th march 2017.

Well done to all students involved. Many thanks to parents for their support and a special thanks must go to Mrs Cattoor who continues to volunteer her time to coach the squad.
