Kent School in Gymnastics Gold Rush

On Sunday 14th January, Tonbridge Grammar School hosted the South East Regional Acrobatics and Tumbling Competition for the BGSA. The event was well attended by schools across the region and the standard was very high. Gymnasts from the School competed in all categories including for the first time, the disability pair section with outstanding results.

The U14 pair section was a very close competition, Tonbridge Grammar School achieved the same score as another Kent school which meant they had to repeat their routine again in front of a panel of 6 judges. Rebecca and Adele held their nerve and won a well-deserved place at National finals along with Emily and Izzy in the U19 pairs section.

For the 1st time the School entered the U19 disability pair section. Annabelle and Lara performed a clean routine, winning the gold medal and a place at National finals.

Both the U14 and U19 Groups from the School were awarded medals. Each group consisted of 6 gymnasts, the U14 group (Adele, Rebecca, Fleur, Isobel, Emma and Emily) achieved a silver medal. The U19 group (Emily, Jasmine, Izzy, Annabelle. Olivia and Maddy) competed a fantastic routine winning the gold medal and a place at National finals.

In the U14 girls National tumbling section Rebecca was awarded a silver medal and will now also represent the South East region at National finals.

A very successful day for Tonbridge Grammar School with a collection of gold medals awarded as a result of a lot of hard work and commitment from the students involved.

All gymnasts will travel to Stoke on 6th May for National Finals with the hope that they can bring back medals for the South East Region.

Good luck to all Tonbridge Grammar School gymnasts!

Thanks must go to our dedicated Gymnastics Coach, Mrs T Catoor for all her hard work and commitment too.
