Year 11s in TGS have been taking part in many exciting volunteer placements this year since September. These projects have sent them all over the place from schools to charity shops and day centres to care homes. A few of the girls working in the day centre have found themselves in a few challenging situations involving communication with the elderly who are either deaf or suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. However they didn’t let a little challenge like this get in the way and they have all come through this project saying how much it has helped them to develop the skills they need in order to communicate with the people involved. Other girls are getting - very practical – but not so exciting retail experience working in charity shops in Tonbridge high street. This has enabled them to gain some useful experience whilst helping the community and the charities involved. Overall the projects are going really well and not only are the girls gaining useful experience, they are also developing new skills whilst helping our local community. The feedback from the organisations supporting our students has been hugely positive.
‘It has been a pleasure to provide a placement for Molly and Stephanie. Both have arrived promptly and have been polite, courteous and hardworking throughout their placement so far. We have been very impressed by their willingness to support children of different ages, regardless of their ability and they have provided a positive contribution to our school. Both Molly and Stephanie are a credit to your school and we will be sorry to see their placement finish on 23rd March’
