Tonbridge Grammar School travelled to Guildford to compete in the South East Regional Milano Team Competition on Sunday 24th January. With 36 teams, the largest number of entries ever known in this region for the Milano competition, the pressure was certainly on all gymnasts to perform at their very best.
TGS entered two squads: one at Regional level, and another at National level who were competing for a place to represent the South East at National Finals. All gymnasts from Tonbridge Grammar performed exceptionally well – with both teams winning gold medals in their respective competitions.
Competing for the Regional team were Farrah, Rebecca, Fleur and Maddy. Individual floor routines were performed first – in which Rebecca achieved the highest score in this category. This was followed by vault, where Fleur was awarded the highest score in the regional competition. Finally the team performed a group routine.
Lola performed to an exceptional standard – achieving the highest combined score for individual floor and vault of the whole competition, across all levels and age groups. The team will travel to Stoke on Friday 11th March for the third consecutive year of competing at this event.
This success adds to the fantastic achievement of our U14 Acrobatics team who have recently qualified for National Finals in May, where Rebecca will also be competing as an individual in the U14 tumbling competition.
We wish the squad the very best of luck and hope that they are able to return with medals for the SE Region.
