Taekwon-do awards for two TGS students

The Vision Taekwon-do Association, which consists of 19 schools from counties stretching as far afield as Devon in the west and Leicestershire in the north, held its annual Taekwon-do competition in Crowborough on 9th May.
Tonbridge Grammar School was represented by two pupils, Anna Wessels (year 9) and Katie Moon (year 8).  These two TGS girls did not disappoint and did their school proud with exceptional performances.
Anna competed in the 14 – 17 years category and it seems that the experience that she gained at the recent Holland Cup was very valuable as she won medals in all of her events; gold in Sparring, gold in Special Technique, and silver in the Patterns event.  In addition Anna was also awarded the trophy as the Overall Champion (boys and girls) in the 14 – 17 years category.
Katie competed in the 10 – 13 years category and continued her recent good form at the English Open by also winning medals in all of her events; silver in Sparring and bronze in the Patterns event.
After the event, instructors and spectators alike commented about the very high standard at this year’s competition. It was noticeable that in virtually each category of the competition there were a number of high profile competitors who have either won a medals in the past or dominated their events in their national and also some international events.
Both girls are part of the Synergy TKD School in Tonbridge and are instructed by Mr Tim Dunn, a fifth degree black belt and past medallist at both European and World levels.
Both TGS girls will be competing next at the Welsh Open in Cardifff at the end of May and without putting any pressure on them we are looking forward to hear about their expected success at that event.
