On Friday 13th March the Elite Gymnastic Squad from Tonbridge Grammar School represented the South East Region at the British Schools National Gymnastic Finals at Fenton Manor, Stoke. It was for the Milano Team Competition, in which a team of 4 gymnasts can be entered. Each team perform 3 individual floor routines, 3 vaults and a trio group routine.
The gymnasts from Tonbridge Grammar competed their individual floor routines first which were all performed well, with Isabelle Kerslake scoring the highest floor score for our team. Next the girls had vault and again this was performed to a good standard. The scores for the team were close and the highest score on vault was by Lola Eftekhari.
The gymnasts then had a break for lunch, and plenty of time to prepare for their trio routine. We had a long wait to compete– however once the girls were on the floor they performed better than they ever have done before! It was a faultless routine – which later became the highest scoring trio routine of the whole competition – an excellent result and a very high achievement for the TGS team!
The finals scores from both U16 Girls teams in the South East Region were combined– and the South East Region were awarded silver medals as the second highest scoring region in the UK, with TGS finishing in 5th place overall!
Well done to all students involved in the Elite Gymnastics Squad – you have all worked tirelessly since September to achieve all of this! And finally a special thanks must go to Mrs Cattoor who volunteers her time to coach the squad, and Charlie Cattoor for her excellent choreography of the routines. Thanks also to Aycliffe Dentistry who kindly agreed to sponsor the team kit.
