As a project for CAS, I initially wanted to start up a baking club, but unfortunately this was not possible for health and safety reasons. However, my friend Alex Coram came up with a brilliant idea: "Hey, you could do a bake off!" This is when my baking idea began to develop.
To suit the international theme, I wanted to make sure that the cakes were not only unique to the country but would also enable the participants to appreciate the different techniques and styles used in different countries. Therefore, Alex and I did some research on which countries would achieve that.
When it came to the day of entering the cakes, I was extremely excited to be judging the variety of bakes that were entered, along with Mrs Joyce, Mrs Bullen and our guest judge Julia Wolfle – TGS Alumni and founder of the TGS Bake Off. It was a really difficult job as everyone had made such an effort. The bakes tasted wonderful!
A big thank you and congratulations to everyone who entered amazing and inspiring bakes, taking the time to create such beautiful cakes for a worthy cause. A special congratulations also to the winner, Isobel Ellis in year 11, for her Mexican cake.
The bakes were sold the next day, with all profits raised donated to the Joshua Orphan and Community Care Trust, part of Team Malawi 2016.
Thank you to everyone.
