Tonbridge Grammar School competed at the South East Regional Milano Team Competition finals on Sunday 25th January at Tormead School in Guildford. Gymnasts from TGS won this competition at National Finals last year, therefore the pressure was on all gymnasts to perform at their very best in order to qualify again.
The competition consists of four gymnasts competing in individual floor and vault followed by a trio group routine. TGS entered three squads into the competition which allowed many of their elite gymnastics squad to be involved.
The level of competition was very high and the gymnasts from TGS overcame the pressure and performed exceptionally well.
The first TGS team finished as runners-up – meaning that they have qualified for National Finals again this year. The team will travel to Stoke on Friday 13th March to defend their title!
The second team entered by TGS were awarded the Regional Shield for performing the highest scoring trio routine of the day – which is the second consecutive year that TGS have achieved this outstanding accolade.
In addition to this Tonbridge’s third team won gold, in the recreational equivalent to this competition, which was a fantastic achievement considering they were the only state school competing in this section on the day.
A special thanks must go to Tania Cattoor who volunteers her time to coach the elite squad at TGS, and also her daughter Charlie Cattoor for her exceptional choreography which has led to the student’s success.
Tonbridge Grammar School will now represent the South East Regional at the Milano Team Gymnastics National Finals on Friday 13th March, which will be held in Stoke.
