Our senior choir, the TGS Motet Choir is one of six senior school choirs through to the final stages of the BBC Songs of Praise School Choir of the Year 2015.
The semi-final and final will be held on 15th March 2015 in The Albert Hall (conference centre) Nottingham. After the semi-final the judges will choose three of the senior school choirs to compete in the final. We would welcome parents and relatives to come and support us at this televised recording between 2:00 and 6:00 pm (to be confirmed). On 11th February they are supporting the Orchid Cancer Appeal in a lovely candlelit Charity Concert at Tonbridge School Chapel. Tonbridge School, Hilden Grange and Walthamstow Hall are also providing music in addition to solo artists. There are two ticket options. You can attend a charity reception from 7pm followed by the concert at 8pm for £16 adults and £12 Children, or just the concert for £10 (no reductions). As you may have seen in the January edition of INDEX magazine, on Saturday 28th February they are one of the six finalists in the Hospice in the Weald Choir Competition at the Assembly Halls Tunbridge Wells. They are up against 5 adult choirs this time. The competition is from 6-8pm with a panel of judges. The Hospice In the Weald are trying to raise 6 million pounds this year. Tickets are Adult £15, Concession £12, Children (under 16) free of charge. Children cannot enter without a ticket and allocated seat so please book for them too! On Monday 9th March the TGS Motet Choir is one of seven senior finalists in the Barnardo’s National Choral Competition at the Royal Festival Hall in London at 6pm. The winning choirs are announced at the end of the concert. Tickets for this feast of primary and secondary school music are available online:
They are priced at £28, £25, and £20 and there is a booking fee of £1.75 (Members £0.00). There are some concessions 50% off (limited availability) recipients of Universal or Pension Credit, full-time students and ages 16 and under.
They are also taking part in the 2nd European Choir Games in Magdeburg in Germany, again the best choirs from all over the world. There are competition events throughout the week from 6-10th July 2015 and free friendship concerts bringing singers from all nationalities together.
They are looking for sponsors who would be happy to support our dedicated and talented young singers in these exciting opportunities, often again competition from the Independent sector. It would also support them to be able to participate in their European choral tour and competition. Can you help?
