New TGS Art Competition

So You Want To Be An Artist?

In partnership with Tunbridge Wells Index magazine and Play Your Part, the Art Department is proud to present the launch of the biggest art competition it has ever run.

Taking place over 5 months, 12 lucky students will be selected to participate in 5 distinctive art based tasks for 5 local businesses and schools. Each of the tasks will be different and require creative thinking, risk taking and ingenious originality.

Each month the work created will be voted for by TGS students, parents and staff, by the business or school the work has been created for and by an elite panel of independent artists and business people. Every month Index Magazine will be publishing an update on each of the tasks completed and who is the current winner based on all votes counted.

At the end of the competition there will be three winners – one from each category (years 7 – 9 and years 10 – 13) plus an overall Head Teacher's Prize. Prizes include a Family Portrait Studio Experience and a day working ‘in house’ in the Art Department of a high end magazine. All work completed will be shown in a large scale exhibition in the summer, together with a silent auction. Winning artworks from each round will be on public display and Index Magazine will publish the winners and their work.

This is an excellent opportunity for any student who feels they have what it takes to be an artist; to be a little avant-garde, contemporary and cutting edge; to have their work viewed by thousands of people every month and to meet artists who have worked for the BBC, the London Pavilion and the Commonwealth Institute amongst many other commissions.

Have you got what it takes?

Submit a 50 word statement of why you want to be an artist via email to Miss Lane by November 21st. The 12 most inventive, innovative entries will be chosen to enter the competition which begins in December.

Good Luck.
