Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world. According to the latest World Bank figures, it has a life expectancy of 54 years and nearly 10 percent of children die before their fifth birthday. AIDS is the main cause of death for those between 20 and 40 - the disease causing around a quarter of the deaths in that age group. Around 25 per cent of men and 55 per cent of women are illiterate.
Inspire Worldwide and the charities Joshua Orphan and Community Care (www.joshuainmalawi.org.uk) work to help improve the lives of thousands of Malawian children. Joshua is based in Blantyre, and works in nineteen rural communities around the city.
A team of TGS students and staff are out in Malawai helping with a community project for two weeks. Keep up to date with what they are doing by clicking here.
