Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, Alumni and TGS Friends

I am delighted to be able to bring you up-to-date with the Play Your Part campaign—more specifically, the completion of the first two phases of the development projects that it is funding.

The new-build IBarn and the refurbished Music and Art departments are now in daily use by students. In the IBarn members of the Sixth Form have moulded the space to make it their own; this has made a huge difference to the community spirit and on a practical level, gives them and younger students, modern, appropriate spaces in which to work towards achieving their ambitions. In Music, students, peripatetic instrument teachers and our neighbours(!) are among those benefitting from the soundproof pods. Instrumental groups, our nationally recognised choirs and those studying Music at GCSE and IB level have been performing in the new spaces, and all of those in Year 7–9 have the benefit of the improvements.

It has been heartening that parents and others who have visited these wonderful new additions to the School have been moved to pledge their financial support to Play Your Part as a result. They have seen the difference that their contribution can make to TGS students. Of course, we are only able to deliver these projects as a direct result of your support, contribution and enthusiasm. As a result of your commitment to date, together with the determination of the Finance, Estates and Development teams in their negotiations, we are in a strong position to continue with the next phase of the capital campaign.

You may remember that the final element of the capital campaign concentrates on creating modern and appropriate outdoor sports facilities for students and the community in which TGS serves. As all students and many parents know, this is an urgent ambition.

We are developing a campaign team with a view to raising our target of £650,000. If you have expertise in the fields of sports development, fundraising or other skills that you feel would be of value, please do get in touch. Similarly, if you would like more information about making a gift to Play Your Part, please contact Pippa Blackstone pippablackstone@tgs.kent.sch.uk 01732 365125 x 221 who is directing the campaign.

Thank you once again for your contributions past, present and future—whichever is most appropriate. I look forward to sharing more good news with you in the New Year. In the meantime, all best wishes for a happy and peaceful Christmas.
