Post-TGS Choices Support/Careers
Students have extensive guidance and support whatever pathway they choose after TGS, whether it be university, gap year or employment.
Independent, impartial careers advice
Independent, impartial careers advice and guidance is purchased from CXK - a Matrix standard organisation. CXK Careers Guidance Advisers are professionally qualified to support and encourage students while they are making decisions about their future. During the confidential and impartial interview students can discuss possible options for further and higher education and explore different career ideas and opportunities.
A wealth of experience
This is coupled with a teaching staff that have extensive experience in supporting students to their next destination, a careers section of the Library full of useful resources, destination-specific support provided by teaching staff (see below) and a programme of visiting speakers designed to inspire, challenge and support.
We also help with work experience placements, CV writing and job references.
Over 90 per cent of students from TGS go straight into Higher Education (see University Destinations 2018). We are justly proud of the quality of our applications, and universities comment on the strength of TGS students’ personal statements and the accuracy of our predicted grades.
A detailed programme of support is provided throughout the university application process, that includes:
Ongoing talks, assemblies and advice from the TGS team.
Talks and workshops from visiting university admissions tutors.
Parents’ UCAS Evening.
Structured support with UCAS applications and personal statements. All forms and personal statements are rigorously checked by at least one member of the Senior Leadership Team.
Destination Specific support for Oxbridge applicants and aspiring medics, dentists and vets (see below).
Help with work experience placements.
Students who wish to apply for employment or undertake a gap year are also closely supported.
Destination Specific Support
Our annual Careers Fair brings together a group of professionals from wide-ranging industries and TGS Students. It provides students with the opportunity to learn more about specific career paths, obtain hints and tips about how to obtain relevant work experience and choose appropriate further education courses and programmes.
