You are able to study Philosophy as part of the individuals and societies element of the IB diploma and can be followed at higher or standard level.
We encourage you to become philosophers and develop skills such as logical argument and analysis. This enables you to question your beliefs as well as those of other students and eminent philosophers.
There are four parts to the course:
In the Core section a study is undertaken into What is a human being. We also examine Philosophy of Religion and/or Ethics.
The texts section allows in depth study of a seminal philosophical text; this year it is Descartes Meditations.
The independent study is chosen by you and is a piece of philosophical writing arising from a simple, non-philosophical stimulus such as a picture or film.
In addition, those taking Philosophy at Higher level are given a piece of philosophical writing and examine the concepts arising from it.
