Middle Years Programme (Yrs 7-9)

The Middle Years Programme (MYP) endeavours to develop active, compassionate and lifelong learners. The rigorous and diverse programme offers students the opportunity to explore strengths, improve confidence and focus on areas for development. In the lower school, students experience a broad and balanced range of 8 subject groups: English Language, Languages, Humanities, Design, Mathematics, Sciences, Arts and Physical Education.

Lessons encourage in-depth inquiry where subjects are linked to the real world and learnt through global contexts: Identities and Relationships, Personal and Cultural Expression, Scientific and Technical Innovation, Orientation in Space and Time, Globalization and Sustainability, Fairness and Development

We provide opportunities for challenging and stretching our exceptionally gifted and talented girls in all the subject areas. Participation in high profile national competitions and awards enrich the learning in subjects including: Mathematics, English Sciences and Languages.

You can find out more about the Middle Years Programme at our Open Days.

IB Learner Profile

We believe that we are all lifelong learners and to this end we take a holistic approach to education. This means not only preparing you for examinations but equipping you with skills for life. To this end we aim to instil these attributes in all our students:

Assessment

Assessment is more than just written work. You will have opportunities to show your understanding in a range of ways. These may include: practical projects and sketchbooks, online assessments, presentations and group displays as well as your general approach to learning.

It is through assessment that you are able to reflect on what you have learnt and to work on areas of development in order to progress. Your level of understanding is checked using a range of different methods, such as continual monitoring by your teachers and peer assessment with other members of your class. Likewise, achievements are celebrated and clear targets are set to outline the next steps. Commendations are rewarded for demonstration of the IB Learner Profile attributes which are put towards your house team.

We aim to establish not just what you know, but also how you develop as a learner.

Parents are kept regularly updated with progress reports. There is a consultation evening once a year, and student managers are available to respond to any areas of concern at other times.

Inter-Disciplinary Learning

Inter-Disciplinary Learning is where you take what you have learnt in different subjects and apply it to problem-solve and explain bigger issues. It is an opportunity to become involved in teamwork and to undertake a broad range of tasks that are wider- ranging than any particular subject.

Some inter-disciplinary learning is through short-term events like a trip and some is through 'off-timetable' weeks. Teachers take opportunities in your lessons to also highlight connections across subjects to help you make links for yourself.
