Wellbeing Dog

I love all the interaction I have with my TGS family – and I get so much attention! The students say that when they are around me, they can’t help but smile. And that makes me smile!

What is a typical day at TGS for you?

I’m a part-time member of the Wellbeing Team that ensures the wellbeing of students and staff is at the heart of everything we do at TGS*.

I’m based in the Wellbeing Hub and my days are varied. A typical day may include being there as a listening ear for students and enjoying walks with them around the lovely school grounds when they need a mindful moment in their day.

What do you enjoy most about being at TGS?

I love all the interaction I have with my TGS family – and I get so much attention! The students say that when they are around me, they can’t help but smile. And that makes me smile!

I also like the fact that, as with everyone at TGS, my wellbeing is prioritised. Myself, staff and students worked closely with specialists to make sure that I was well matched to the school and that as well as having time with students and staff, I have my own quiet time too. The PTA sponsored my assessment and training, so I’m very grateful to them.

And I do like munching on the occasional dog treat!

What has been your favourite moment so far?

Being a listening ear ‘audience’ for a Sixth Form student who was practising her English presentation. I was able to offer her a pair of (furry!) ears to listen to her speech and gave her confidence to go on to deliver it to a non-canine audience!

*My human friends in the Wellbeing Team include Student Advisors for each year group and a Wellbeing Co-ordinator, Specialist Teacher of Educational Need, Sixth Form Support Co-ordinator, Mental Health Co-ordinator, School Counsellor, School Nurse, SENCO, Assistant SENCO and a Safeguarding Team.
