February 11th 2014 is Safer Internet Day and this is celebrated every year across Europe, and in other countries worldwide. This year’s theme is “Let’s create a better internet together.”
We believe that internet safety education is a crucial element of the curriculum and an essential part of young people’s development. Activities in school this week include:
- e-safety assemblies promoting positive uses of the Internet
- students completing our annual Digital World survey that looks at trends in how our students use technology
- Computer Technology lessons have themed, interactive resources
- students can access an online resources through the Digital World course on the OLIE
As parents and carers you can find out more about supporting your child from the Safer Internet Day website. The site contains practical advice and safety tips to help manage online safety issues.
We would also urge you to discuss with your child how they use the Internet. Our Digital World survey results, so far, indicate that 73% of students have uploaded information that they have created to the Internet and spend on average 6 – 10 hours a week online. Does this sound like your child?
