Success in national Latin competition

In the Latin classroom it is not ordinary practice to expect students to recite in Latin, but two TGS students took the opportunity to develop this skill by entering the Association for Latin Teaching's Latin Reading Competition 2023.

In this national competition, students are given a passage of Latin to record themselves reciting, with correct pronunciation and conveying the appropriate emotions of the texts' meaning. Lucille in Year 8 and Corinne in Year 9 entered the junior category and both came away with prizes. Corinne came first and Lucille second, reading a passage from the Cambridge Latin Course about a hunting expedition on the River Nile.

I really enjoy Latin and entering the competition allowed me to expand my Latin speaking skills.

Lucille

It was a particularly valuable opportunity to read Latin out loud and enjoy the language and the drama of the Latin story.
