Tonbridge Grammar School is delighted to announce that the TGS Motet Choir have qualified for the semi-finals of the BBC Songs of Praise ‘Young Choir of the Year 2019' and the final of the Barnardo's Youth Choir Competition.
Tonbridge Grammar School's three young choirs have been invited for the third successive year to perform at a special Christmas Carol Concert at Southwark Cathedral on Wednesday 28 November 2018 at 7.30pm as a fundraising venture for Barnardo's. Over 150 pupils will be raising the roof to begin their Christmas festivities from TGS Motet, Cantores and Junior Choirs. As well as singing their own pieces, the choirs will come together with five other schools to form a massed choir to sing music by Lin Marsh and a specially written carol by Motet director Adrian Pitts who will also conduct the combined forces.
The 50-strong Cantores Choir, under new director Benedict Collins Rice, has been busy putting the finishing touches to its programme for a joint concert with Royal Tunbridge Wells Orpheus Male Voice Choir in aid of the Hospice in the Weald on Saturday 13 October 2018.
On Tuesday 3rd July, the 40-strong Motet Choir from Tonbridge Grammar School will join students from all over the country to perform in this year’s Music For Youth National Festival in Birmingham. The award-winning senior girls’ choir has been selected to perform on the stage of the Symphony Hall in Birmingham this summer. Only 40% of the 40,000 musicians are selected for National Festival events at this annual celebration of music.
The Motet Choir of Tonbridge Grammar School returned triumphant from the 3rd European Choir Games in Latvia. The girls, aged 14-18 years sang music from Great Britain as well as gospel songs, motets, and songs from Spain, the USA and South Africa.
The award winning TGS Motet Choir from Tonbridge Grammar School in Tonbridge Kent, will represent GB and compete against the best in the international choir world at the 3rd European Choir Games in July 2017.
