Since September 2014, Latin has become a core subject from Year 7 for all students.
You work from the Cambridge Latin Course, a story-based textbook which follows the lives of a Roman family in the 1st century AD. As well as learning the Latin language, there is a strong emphasis on studying ancient Roman civilisation, covering topics such as gladiators, theatres and Roman gods and goddesses.
There are a huge number of reasons to choose Latin as one of your languages: Latin is the basis for a number of European languages, and studying Latin enables you to develop a clear understanding of the structure and grammar of all languages, including English. Recent studies in America and the UK have shown that knowledge of Latin dramatically improves pupils' accuracy of spelling, clarity of expression and range of vocabulary in their own language.
