All students take English and English Literature; both subjects are assessed in external written exams. We find that you are better off being tested at the end of the course, when your writing and reading skills are at their best.

Over the course of the two years, we focus on sharpening your writing and analytical skills so that you approach your exams feeling self-assured and knowledgeable.

As well as preparing you for exams, we aim to instil a greater confidence in your ability to communicate. This involves presenting your ideas to the class, getting involved in debating and working in groups to discuss aspects of literature.

We also encourage you to experiment with a wider range of  independent reading. This not only enhances your range of vocabulary, but also helps to develop your ideas and opinions.
